Koffman Collaborates on Course to Support Black Business Owners

The Koffman Southern Tier Incubator, managed by Binghamton University, was recently featured on WBNG 12 News for collaborating with Support Black Business Facebook creator Sulaiminah Burns to create a program to support black business owners.

The SBB607 Business Accelerator is a four-week virtual business course run in conjunction with the Small Business Development Center every four months and is open to residents in Broome and Tioga counties.

“I just wanted to make sure that Koffman, with all of the great resources that we have for entrepreneurship programs and just really great instructors and mentors, I just wanted to make sure that those resources were also available for them,” said Fabiola Moreno Olivas, Program Coordinator of the Innovation Binghamton I-Corps Site.

Moreno added that people of color make up 14% of the Broome County population but own less than 10% of businesses. “I would definitely like to see that change,” she said.
