Leadership Lessons in a VUCA World with General George Casey

February 2, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Do you own a business? Do you work with family members? Do you sometimes just need a private place to talk?

Family and privately owned businesses face unique challenges, as well as opportunities. To foster dialog, learning and growth to address and understand these challenges, the Smith Family Business Initiative at Cornell is pleased to announce the formation of the Upstate Owners Forum for the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier of New York. This on-going series seeks to connect owners from family and privately held enterprises to educate, network and inform.

We are pleased to kick off the Upstate Owners Forum on Thursday, February 2 and honored to have General George Casey join us to share his thoughts on “Leadership Lessons in a VUCA World.” Today we live, work and compete in a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous world. Leading in this environment is tough business and requires leaders with the vision to see opportunities in volatile and ambiguous situations, the courage to act in the face of uncertainty and complexity and the character and resilience to make hard decisions and bounce back from unexpected setbacks. VUCA leaders have a bias towards action, even in the face of uncertainty.

Please join us for this kick-off event on February 2 at 4:00 at Coltivare in downtown Ithaca. Refreshments and beverages will be served, and best of all, no charge. All qualified members of a family business are welcome to attend, regardless of your geographical locale, however the Upstate Owners Forum is reserved for owners and members of family businesses only.
