Water consumption is one of the main indicators of horse health. Colic, which includes many complex digestive issues, is the leading cause of equine fatality. A symptom of colic, is a horse not drinking. Catching colic early is vital to treatment.
Equine Design seeks to save equine lives as well as the $12,000 in veterinary bills when a horse needs colic surgery, as opposed to a $500 visit if caught early. Their device will automate tracking water consumption, removing human error and providing much needed data for horse health management.
Starting Point At the start of the STSA Hardware Accelerator, Equine Design’s device is solid in theory and concept. More than one option for how this device can be achieved has been found promising.
Goal First, Equine Design will discover which overall design for the product is the most viable and prioritize and test a number of features for the device. Through the rapid iterative prototyping process, the device will be built, tweaked, and rebuilt until a fully functional final version is produced. Through the help of entrepreneurship training, Equine Design will be equipped with individually fitted tools for turning their product into a profitable and stable business.
